The Airstik 2Stage is a durable aluminium pump with enough puff for mountain bike tires and enough pressure for road tubes, too, thanks to the two-stage high-pressure/high-volume switch. Presta only, though -- what are we, eight years old and riding Huffys?
Whether you ride on road, off-road, or somewhere in between, the Airstik switches easily between high volume and high pressure to suit your pumping needs. Who is this Schrader anyway? Fewer and fewer folks are running Schrader valves, so we've made this pump with a push-on, Presta-only head for easy use. Constructed from aluminium, a lightweight and tough material for extra durability and a timeless look. And even the best pump won't do you much good if you've left it in your sock drawer. This pump comes with a discreet frame mount that attaches under your water bottle cage.
I'd say take it apart and see if something shifted out of position. It's been quite a while since i had to disassemble mine, so i don't remember what the guts looked like, just that it's pretty simple.
The only issue i've ever had (hence the disassembly) is with slime tubes, back when the wife used to insist upon them. Those suckers always burp some green goo into the pump head, which the topeak doesn't care for at all. Had to tear it apart and clean dried slime off all the inards, it's worked flawlessly since that episode, which was probably a couple of years ago.
Good luck, eric. I own a Topeak Joe Blow pro floor pump.
Today, I tried to inflate my tires, and all the air leak out through the valve. I looked at the head of the pump and saw that the thumb-lock lever was out of line.
The pin had come out of one of the sides of the head. I re-aligned the lever and pushed the pin through, but still the pump did not create a seal and any air pumped into the tire immediately leaked out.
The pump was purchased less than two years ago. Any suggestions on how to fix this? This happened to me about 2 years ago, I contacted Topeak I had a new head in my hands by the end of the week No Charge! Yeah the head does suck it is prown to comming apart. I was able to recover all the parts to the old head, reassembled then I used clear fingernail polish on the ends of the head release shaft to keep it from comming apart. Or you could just go to your LBS they probably have another brand that will work.
I've this same pump and the same thing happened to me not one month ago. As I recall, the thumblock seats against a platform underwhich are 3 or 4 small springs. I'd take it apart again and verify all springs are accounted for and properly located.
If that doesn't do it, contact Topeak and give them a chance to impress you with their customer service; explain to them matter-of -factly, respectfully, and politely what happened and if 'there is anything I can do to fix it'. I have yet to deal with them, but many of these smaller companies have great customer service.
