I've been playing 8BallClub for over 6 years now since I've discovered it in 2009. It's a free multiplayer only billiards game. It's less than 30 MB in size. It's the best 3D billiard game I've played, it's also ranked as the number one billiard game on the internet.
Now I've never played Virtual Pool on PC. I've got Virtual Pool Mobile on Android which is an awesome pool simulation. I never bought Pool Nation because I heard it's arcady. So I was curious to know how much of a simulation Virtual Pool 4 is in comparison to 8BallClub? I read that you can shoot the ball by moving the mouse back and forward like a true real life billiards game.
It's exactly the same gameplay mechanism of 8BallClub where you move the mouse backwards and the harder you push the mouse forward the harder the shot is going to be. But I was also interested to know whether the game allows you to aim with your own imagination without having arrow aim assistance. Something I love about 8BallClub unlike other arcade-like pool games, is that it doesn't have arrows aiming assistance, (it's purely imagination based like in real life) this makes the game more based on skill and measurement!
Has anyone played 8BallClub or is willing to give it a try and let me know how Virtual Pool 4 compares to this? It's been a while since I played 8BallClub, but it is a pretty good game and for me it's a clear no.2 behind VP4. To answer your questions about aiming aids and shooting method - these both work in the way you prefer. You hold S, then move the mouse back and forth like a real cue to strike the ball. There are no aiming aids at all in multiplayer, the only aiming aids are a 'ghost ball' and 'tracking lines' which are only available as optional tools in practice/single player, intended as a training tools for beginners. What I prefer about VP4 is the ball physics - they are pretty much spot on, and feel amazingly close to playing for real.
As such, shot selection/execution very closely mimics that of real life play. 8BC has decent physics, but they don't 'feel' as satisfying and realistic to me, it's hard to put my finger on exactly why. Also, I think the camera controls in VP4 are much better. 8BC limits the height you can view from so you can't see right down the cue. You do have that picture-in-picture view in the corner but it's not the same.
From the reasons you give for liking 8BC, and for skipping on Pool Nation, it sounds like VP4 would definitely be to your liking. Originally posted by GloryIan:VP4 is very similar to 8ballclub in terms of aiming (although there is no aim helper) and gameplay, but the physics are much more realistic. VP4 is much closer to real life play. Yes, you shoot the ball by moving the mouse just like in 8ballclub.
It's a bit harder than 8ballclub though. Pockets are less accepting and playing position is more difficult.
You can try the limited version for free (I think there's only 8 ball and 3 ball on a small table), and see for yourself. Download your uninstaller 2010 full version free download. My Addition: You can play VP4 online for free in Garage location (7' Table, 8Ball, 6Ball, 9Ball).
