I´m not an expert. As I see the Sigma is a cheap instrument. I´m surprised becouse it looks nice, sounds good and is very confortable to play I thought it got a better value. I got mine from a friend and I paid for it with some boss effect pedals that I was not using. I think I did good trade anyway it sounds like an expesive guitar and I´m sure I will keep it. I think many folks to pick up a Sigma are surprized - but these are essentially Martin clones made using exact Martin specs, just typically laminate for back and sides versus solid, and less expensive tuners. So frankly its no wonder they sound great, and are great guitars.

All the online info (which isn't much) I've come across dealing with Sigma manufacturing history states that Sigmas were made in Japan from 1970- 1983, moving to Korea 1984-1993/94. I own a Sigma DM 4, made in Korea, paper label, blue border, gold script, serial #8013108 that I KNOW that I purchased in 1981. Bought from Music Emporium USA, Rockville, Maryland. If, as everything I've found online states, manufacture in Korea didn't begin until 1984, how did I get this guitar in 1981? I realize some Sigma info is sketchy but these dates seem consistent. Anybody have any input?

That's s tough one to answer. I have a Sigma DM-4 (all the same specs as yours) with a serial # of 8301XXX I know for a fact mine was purchased in Dover, DE somewhere between 1984 and 1986. Based on the serial # yours would precede mine, however, Sigma serial #'s mean nothing except for #'s 900,001 to 902,908 in 1981 and 1982.
